Should teenagers below 16years be allowed to acess social networking websites?

I have wondered this myself, as well. I don't believe so, not in the way that they have been doing it. What I mean is, kids are just on these sites such as Myspace anf Facebook...They have these profiles that are just atrocious. The language, the pictures...everything. I think that parents should be monitoring their children's online usage more, not just on sites such as these, but altogether. How many times have we seen kids on here using foul language and being outright rude? Many times. So I think that something should be started were the parent has to sign the child up. I know that there are teenagers out there who genuinely use the sites just to talk to their friends or whatever. But I don't think that parents realize just how unsafe these sites can be. I watched a news report that said over 20 THOUSAND registered sex offenders are on Myspace...Pretty scary huh? And then we have the 14 year old girl with provacative pictures, spilling details about her life and where she is located, etc. RECIPE FOR DISASTER! I really think that there should be some kind of age limit, but if that isn't started, then parents need to be more informed on what their kids are doing.Should teenagers below 16years be allowed to acess social networking websites?
What for?? Aren't they social at school??

Why increase their chances of becoming a victim??

I honestly do not feel teenagers should be given as much freedom as they are in this day and age. It scares me to think of what sort of things will be out there when my two daughters will be teenagers.Should teenagers below 16years be allowed to acess social networking websites?
they need it for reasearches, games if they are allowed/finished their work.

wots wrong with adults? no offence, they are so silly and they forget their childhood feeling like young people doesnt like to feel that they are YOUNG.

Goodness sake! I dont care if i got thumb downs..what is it going to do???
People need to realise that the only the things that happen to these kids happen to ones who willingly meet and greet with these men.

Don't punish all the kids because of the stupid actions of another.
It depends on the site, and it depends on how much the parents can trust the kid to be responsible about it. Many of these sites allow ';private'; profiles, like Myspace and Facebook. That makes it safer.
NO. kids get into way to much trouble these days.
I think it depends on the site and if there are pervs and porno on it.
umm, no. technically you can't have a myspace until you're 13. but people will lie, say anything, and do anything to seem popular. personally, social networks are one of the most evil condensending things ever made. full of pervs, losers, and people who try to fit in b/c they think having a profile will make them cool. it's destorying our society. people wonder why there are overweight children now, it's becuase they wont get out of their PC chair becuase they gotta check their myspace, facebook, e-mail, etc. every five seconds....
I dont think they should. They are so young, and not many good things come from social networking websites. I would wait until they were older. Thats just my opinion ;)
If they know how to watch themselves and keep their personal info private.
