?What did children/teenagers do fun for back in 1912?
Bicycling was very popular at that time, most children and teenagers who could afford a bike would have one (boys and girls).
Hoops were very popular with children, you ran along bowling the hoop with a stick to make it go. Skipping ropes were very popular with girls. Ball games of course were popular with boys and girls.
children would play a lot of the same kind of games they do nowadays, like ball games, chasing games, hide and seek etc. and they had a lot of the same kind of toys that children do nowadays, though not of course made of plastic, dolls for instance would be china or wooden, toy soldiers would be made of lead etc.
both children and teenagers would play card games and board games like chess, draughts, backgammon etc.
Outdoor games like archery, tennis, golf and croquet were popular with young people because they could be played by both sexes and provided opportunities for socialising. Horseback riding was popular with those who could afford it.
Dancing of course was popular then as it is now. Most young people learnt to dance so that they could perform competently on the dance floor. At dances, girls would have dance programmes, and they would fill in the names of young men who asked to dance with them against the number of the dance. They might dance more than once with young men they liked particularly, though it was considered not really proper to have more than three dances in an evening with the same young man.
At home, most girls learnt to play the piano, and enjoyed learning to play the latest songs, playing duets with their friends etc.
People would go out to the theatre, or to circuses, or to the moving pictures which were becoming very popular at this time. Most films were quite short, but some of the big stars of the silent era, like Mary Pickford and Lilian Gish, were already becoming popular. What did children/teenagers do fun for back in 1912?
Baseball and football were popular back then, though it would be years until white kids played basketball. There was no TV or ';voice and music' radio (it was a telegraph at the time) but there were movies, and they were very popular.
Also, nearly every house had at least one person who could read and play music. Singalongs were popular, even singing along with Mr. Edison's gramophone, or Mr. Victor's phonographs. (Record players)
