Why do teenagers start to smoke?

When I was a teen ,I wanted to fit in and be cool.


Television ads were Rampant back then.The ads even implied it made you look sexy,relieved tension ,and tasted good.


Well it took 33 years to KICK the habit .I did hypnotism ,gums ,cold turkey and Nic o ban .The latter tasted awful. I finally asked my doctor and she gave me Zy-ban ,I made up my mind to quit.The last cigarette was on June 23rd 1998.I Will Not Go Back. I am PROUD of ME.Why do teenagers start to smoke?
Stupid!!! there is no reason to start smoking these days after all is known about the dangers and harm it causes the body.When I started smoking we did not know all the damage it does.I started back around 1980.And wish I never did.

I have to go along with peer pressure and creating an image of being rebellious.
When they can get an adult to buy the cigs for them !
Every one smokes to self medicate stress.
Friction.
Pressure from friends, the same goes for drinking and other drugs, this is why it is so important to have friends that do not want to destroy their lives. Select your friends carefully
TO FIT IN IS ONE PEER PRESURE ANOTHER AND IF YOU NEVER TOLD YOUR CHILD NOT TO SMOKE AND GAVE THEM REASONS NOT TO SMOKE

They think they are being cool in an effort to belong in a group at school, they succumb to peer pressure.
I never started but some of my friends did. I think some of them do it coz they think it makes them look grown up. My friend told me once when he was drunk that he started coz he wanted to look cool and fit in. Some teenagers start coz of pressure from friends and everyone else appears to be doing it so they get pressured to do it and wanna fit in. Some start coz there friends keep on at them to try it. Some teenagers my try it out of curiosity. I tried it once and also smoking a drug once just to see what it was like. But I didn't wanna get addicted so I just tried it once.
honestly I started smoking (as a teen) because my friends were smoking, but no one ever told me I should start up, I just did it on my own... that and well it was cheaper to smoke cigarettes than to smoke pot.





I quit about 2 years ago... and at this point can take it or leave it which is nice.
because we're bored, so very bored.
THEY THINK ITS COOL

Preer pressure does not exsist. Its your own choice. Because the same reason most teenagers experimant with sex and drugs, a part of trying to find your self, relive stress...etc
because they think it makes them look cool, but the only thing it does is make them look stupid, because they are trying too hard to look cool. Smoking does kill, i wish they would just freaking listen!!! its not ';cool'; to smoke.
to look cool and be like their friends and like in the ads and stuff.
Peer pressure and influence from the media, luckily I hated smoking when i tried it and never got into the habit
I started smoking this past February in France...you don't have to be 18 to get them there and I thought it'd be fun to buy them. I usually only smoke when I'm drunk (that's a whole other problem) and sometimes when I'm with my friend we both will smoke together...there's just nothing to do when you're a teenager.
i started smoking because i enjoined it and it made me fill grown up


then i really grow up and my brother got lung cancer so i stopped smoking


i wish the governments of all countries stop selling and growing tobacco
smoke what cigarettes or reefer?? cigarettes i have never and will never smoke and as for the other well it relaxes you

they think that's the way to fit in among the ';cool'; people.
learned behavior and neuroses, same as adults.
maybe b.c. they want to know what it feels like to get high.. then i guess they keep doing it.
I smoke because I saw my big brother smoking and thought he was cool so I wanted to try it. The I was dating a guy who smoked when I was 15 and I wanted him to like me so I took it up then I had friend's who smoked so I just went along. Now I'm 23 and wish I didn't cause I can't seem to quit. I hate smoking.
It's cool, feels cool, Looks cool.
they are pressured by their friends and they want to look cool. It's not worth it!!!
Because they have a death wish.
they want to look cool to everyone and seem invincible.
