Should the legal age for sex be raised to 21 to avoid teenagers-children themselves-from having children?

the government encourages teenage pregnancy by giving them the lifestyle only lottery winners can only afford , i don't think age limit is relevant ............:)Should the legal age for sex be raised to 21 to avoid teenagers-children themselves-from having children?
no that's retarded

the biological age for people to get the sexual urge is around 13 or 14 years old

the law should realise this fact and deal with it

how can you say to people you have the urge but you mustn't do any thing about it until a few year later?

you will never stop human beings who are biologically ready to have sex from making love.

sorry - I'm not talking about child molesters i am only talking about those who are biologically ready to mate 13/14 plus. you will never stop it way back in the 1950s it happened they were called gym slip mums

go even further back in time the average age to marry was around 13.

to days laws are out of sync with natureShould the legal age for sex be raised to 21 to avoid teenagers-children themselves-from having children?
I think this kind of question misunderstands the reasons teenagers are getting pregnant. They get pregnant because they're a raging ball or hormones and they're told to ignore them, but that isn't going to happen. I think the important thing to recognize here is that sex is a natural and organic process. Telling people they can't do it isn't going to stop them because they have natural urges to do so.

If you want to stop teen pregnancy, what you want to focus on is better sex ed. so that when people do have sex they know how to have sex safely and use contraception properly. If anything, it might be better to lower the age of consent because that would allow sex ed. to be taught at an earlier age so that teenagers understand how not to get pregnant. It would also allow slightly more guidance from teachers in terms of what situations people have sex in. So instead of teenagers having sex whatever way they can get it, you could focus on teaching them to be responsible and encourage them to have sex in meaningful relationships, rather than just random encounters. The reason I say that is that if they're having random sexual encounters, it may be impromptu and unprepared for. But if you teach them that sex is ok and that it's a natural part of a relationship, they're more likely to prepare for it properly. That in conjunction with earlier sex ed. would be the most effective ways to stop teenage pregnancy.

Considering the alternatives they learn from (MTV, TV, etc...), it's best to get to them as early as possible so that they understand what the sexual messages they see on tv are and so they understand that's not a healthy or desirable view of sexuality (';pimpin and whorin'; or whatever).
No, because that would be putting the cart before the horse. You can't keep on changing the rules, and besides which who is going to police it. Better sex education, at a much earlier age, and show the little dears explicitly the consequences of under age sex. Its no good anymore saying well we have the highest rate of teen pregnancies, perhaps it should be the government looks into the reasons behind it, and believe me alcohol and peer pressure make a huge impact
The legal age is 16 now and there's still 13%26amp;14 year olds (even younger aswell I think) having sex so hasn't made any difference. Better education is the key I think. I was pregnant at 18,understood the consequences of having sex and have an even better life than before because I now have a responsibility to look after my child and get a good career behind me, so just because you're young and get pregnant doesn't mean you're irresponsible and not able to cope. unfortunately its the minority that spoil it for the majority regarding the perception of teenage mums.
I agree it wouldn't matter if you raised it to 75.

Also, though teenagers aren't ready to become parents, that doesn't make them children..

Just a glimpse into the kind of work Margaret Meade did on maturing, and feeling sexual beyond age 12, and the acceptance of sexual practice in other cultures at younger ages reminds us it's a mattter of culture. When your hormones start kicking in, you become sexually aware, and when they go wild, it's ridiculous to consider yourself a child anymore.

You have to remember too, maturing can begin earlier, and some people never mature. Someone's age is no indicator of maturity.
The legal age of smoking is 18 and the legal age of drinking is 21 and drugs are illegal for everyone. Does this stop teens from any of these activities?

When will we learn that making more laws doesn't stop behavior (like gun laws) and get back to parents teaching children morals and personal responsibility.
I don't think it would have much of an effect--the girls who are having babies now under the age of 20 are in some cases ignoring the law which says they have to be 16.

A better use of effort I think would be 1) make the lives of kids (both urban and rural) who live in areas with high rates of teen pregnancies more meaningful and 2) figure out why kids are starting puberty earlier (growth hormones in livestock?)

As an aside, I think the voting, drinking, and military service age should all be the same. (It's absurd that you can kill and die for your country, vote for its leadership, but not buy beer).
Tommy,

No.

For a two reasons.

1.) Legislating things like how people should handle thier bodies never really works. People will do what they want even if there are laws about it. You can't legislate morality or life choices. Should the Government really be able to make blanket laws about life choices in a free country, especially in regards to having kids? Everything is individual and NO law will cover all the circumstances. It would be much more prudent to offer comprehensive sex ed, free birth control and support for young men %26amp; women in crisis.

2.) People love to ignore biology when it comes to baby making. One of the (but certianly not the only) reasons the West has such a high infertility rate. People (mostly women)are waiting until their bodies are past the prime times to have healthy pregnancies. Some experts estimate the average age for decreasing chances of fertility begin at 27! Pregnancies in the 30's and 40's pose more health risks to both mother and baby.

Would you propose to put a law into place also making it illegal for a 45 year-old to attempt to concieve?

I DO NOT CONDONE teen pregnancy, however I also think placing a limit - especially on childbearing in EITHER direction age-wise - would be placing even greater strain on our already stressed and damaged idea of ';family'; and how people should go about making them.

Interesting question though.
To be honest it doesn't really stop people. If they want to have sex, people will have sex regardless of what age they are. There needs to be more awareness and parents need to be more open with their children about sex and stop treating it as a tabboo subject. That way people wouldn't be scared or worried about buying condoms or going on the pill because of what people think.
I don't think it should be raised to 21. I had my first child at the age of 19. You could say my husband and I were more mature than most. we have been together for almost 8 years now and have 2 beautiful children. no one can decide if someone under 21 isn't fit to be a parent. mistakes are made and most learn from them, but how do you learn from mistakes if you never make any? not saying go have sex to see but leave it up to the parents and their children to decide.
i dont think that would make much difference do you............. the legal age is 16 but how many silly teenagers are going out getting preganant before that already. and the fact they are breaking the law does not bother them at all.

Perhaps all these parents who's tarty kids %26amp; the parents of the boys doing it should be taken to court and fined. An then between them they should be made to pay for their keep.
No, it wouldn't work and as the age at which you can legally be married (with parental approval) is 16, it is totally impractical. We need to bring many things into line. You can go into the army and die fighting (as two 19 year olds did recently) but can't have a fag or a drink or sex.

I
No.

For people who want to do whatever they want, they'll do it.

Drugs, for example, are ILLEGAL. PERIOD. And yet there are hundreds of thousands of people doing drugs everyday.

Smoking is illegal for people under 19 (in Utah) and yet so many teenagers smoke anyway.

Child pornography and human trafficking is completely, aside from being illegal, forbidden and intolerant and yet there are so many cases of abduction for this sadistic crime.

Underage alcohol consumption is also illegal, and I've known people who've been drinking since 14.

If anything, making it illegal would cause an adolescent uproar and rebellion-when teenagers are told that they CAN'T do something, then they typically do just that, and in some cases, take it as far to the extreme as possible.

So no, I don't think that making it illegal would be beneficial, but hey, at least you're trying to stop it!
No, that would be like a police state! That said... kids shouldn't be having sex! And especially unprotected.

Now, here's too much information for ya... but I waited until I was married... I've been married for 13 years and going strong... My husband waited too!

It can be done and you can have a great marriage. Don't give yourself away too early kids! And don't have kids, kids!

There's my sermon for the day!

Peace, Love, Light...
trust me it will not stop anyone!!

my parents drilled it into my head to use contreception and this is the second time ive been pregnant now

it will never change anything...what they need to do is get people who have been through abortions and sti's at a young age to come in and talk to young people.
That would probably have a similar effect to the age for consuming alcohol being 18 NONE at all.

Why do people think that legislation has the effect of stopping anything where the practice is common it has little or no effect mobile phones in cars is another classic example.
no because i don't think it would change anything.

i know areas where there is a lot of teenages pregnant and they do so even under the legal age. way before the legal age. i know people that did it at age 11.

allough i can't think of something that would work i personally don't agree
that's way too farfetched. no national age of consent in my opinion would be any good. there's not a single good way to write into law because there's so many factors. main being what age is considered mature. what about elders and teachers. what about the facts girls go through puberty before boys. take all that into account and people hold different views
what is wrong with you, since when is having sex a bad thing obviosuly gepaerdizing your life by getting pregnant isnt a very smart move, but punishing all those who enjoy sex for that, what kind of inhuman, way of thinking is that, what is wrong with you
Even if they did this , teenagers would still be having sex. they don't obey the law now let alone if they raised it to 21. BTW, im 20 and married since i was 19, that means if the legal age was 21 i couldn't have sex with my husband?
yeah, because that would work! we would just have even more people in jail lol. besides, even though some teenagers aren't fit to be parents, that doesn't mean that all 21 year old or over people are. it depends on the individual, although i don't think anyone under 16 should ever have kids
It's not really something that can be regulated. It's not the government's responsiblity to control this. It's the parent's responsiblity to teach children what they should know about responsiblity and reproduction.
No, for the simple reason, it won't work. Children as young as 12, 13, 14 are having sex and getting pregnant. We need more education and work with families to try and get the message across.
Only if you believe the only point of sex is to have babies!

What's really needed is an understanding of what sex means to young people and why they do it, plus good sex education and support both at school and at home.
Sex clinics offer school children condoms and

morning after pills to hundreds of schools in England.Parents are not informed by most of them

no, we should lower the legal age of adulthood to 16. If you are old enough to drive, then you are old enough to be driven.

Laws don't fix problems. Drugs are illegal, but we still have plenty of drug atticts.
I raised the age of sex for my two teen daughters to ';when you get married';.

One is 18, the other is 13 and both are following dad's orders.
How can you deny people of the most natural act in a human being? Seems we have a few fun spoilers in tonight. Or are they just jealous? 16 is an o.k. age.
maybe the government should force parents to put their daughters on the pill until they are a legal adult, they force vaccines, right?
I think maybe the parents should keep there kids from having sex. Now I don't mean for them to lock them in the house but there are ways to keep them from doing it.

But I'm jus thinking out loud.

Why do sexually abused children/teenagers wet the bed?

This isn't happening to me, but I'm just wondering how/why sexual abuse causes them to do that.

ThanksWhy do sexually abused children/teenagers wet the bed?
There are several theories.

Some believe that it is a form of regression.

Some also believe it is a sort of detachment from that area because of the abuse.

Some also believe that it could even be a passive almost unconscious way of thwarting their molesters....by being ';unclean'; there ';unappealing'; so to speak. Why do sexually abused children/teenagers wet the bed?
I used to wonder this too but I asked a friend working in Psychology. She said there are a few reasons:

Fear is the first one that comes to mind. Secondly, it is an animal instinct to mark territory and warn off people and as someone else here as said, it will put the abuser off with the smell or mess.

It's a shame what some kids have to go through and they spend a lifetime trying to recover. The only way that we can stop it is by raising awareness, being vigilant and reporting it as soon as we see it.
Not sure, but I do know that wetting the bed is because a chemical in the brain isn't producing properly. It's not the person's fault. That's why kids shouldn't get into trouble for doing it.
Pure fear. They relive their trauma in their dreams and they wet their beds out of pure anxiety.

That is not to say that everyone who wets their bed was sexually abused, but everyone who wets their bed suffers from some form of anxiety.
My mom told me she used to wet the bed till she was a teen because of stress .

So maybe your stressed about the abuse .

Or maybe it's just you and not other kids .
this is because they are tramatized..

so tend to wet the bed because of they are frightened

since they think of it too much

  • Can dieting stunt growth in teenagers?

if you did it donstantly from the age of 13, when I say dieitng, I mean restricting calories to lose weight, but not an eating disorder. Can dieting stunt growth in teenagers?
A person who is growing, as a 13 year old is, should _not_ go on a diet, it is not helathy at all.

And yes that can stunt growth. Can dieting stunt growth in teenagers?
no but it can stunt growth in midgets
The answer is YES they can, and they should if they are overweight no matter what the age is, even babies can go on special diets, being OVERWEIGHT is a big health hazard that should be cured by proper dieting at an early age, but the issue is what type of dieting, it should be well balanced, by that i mean the diet should include all necessary elements, NO JUNK FOOD.
    I don't know.
Yes, instead of dieting perhaps it's time for exercise. Not necessarily building muscle, but moving enough that you're not turning into the Michelin man. I know, I know, it's easier to say you're on a diet than to actually get up and do something.

    Anorexic chicks are nasty, though.
    Dieting, as in starvation, is bad. Dieting, as in watching what and how much you eat, combo'ed with a normal amount of physical activity, is good. This may mean cutting back on sweets and grease, eating a banana instead of chips, etc. At age 13, I find that a lot of teenagers will maintain their weight, but once they hit their growth spurt, it gets spread out over another foot of height. That usually takes care of the ';baby fat.';
i was on a diet at 13....whats wrong with it?

and im healthy 5ft 9ins and usually a size sixteen waist.... note i am 23 now when i was a kid i was a size 18 to 20 waist of which at 13 i dieted to get down to a size sixteen and look healthy i did not do anything too strenuous mainly excercise and long walks and also a cut down on sweet things it was my choice id like to add and not a eating disorder.
It certainly stunted my growth , I weigh 350lbs and am 7ft 6ins tall
i don't think it can if all you are doing is healthy eating, but if it is a major restriction then yes because your body would use all its fuel for the day to day living and not repairing or building (ie making cells to produce bones or tissues for growth,) a lot of growth happens at puibity and a lack of nutrients effects how effective this is also (ie.people with eating disorders sometimes become infertile.)

I think height has more to do with genetics than environment though.

but environment (diet) does play a part an example - people from the victorian times had a poorer diet and were shorter
13 year old on a diet?? Stop going to McDonald's!!!!!!!!!!

What's with all the teenagers on here at this time of day? shouldn't they be in school?

have you noticed a lot of teenagers on here lately at times when they should be in school. how is that? do they get on here at school somehow? What's with all the teenagers on here at this time of day? shouldn't they be in school?
i guessWhat's with all the teenagers on here at this time of day? shouldn't they be in school?
Some of them may have those little cell phones that give you web access, and they can write their Answers with their text pad. They bring those things to school all the time.
i hate school. so i went home ';sick'; today haha
In many schools, students in higher grades (last year or two) get what is known as a ';Spare'; or ';Study'; block. This block is supposed to be used to make up missed homework, study etc., but I find Yahoo! Answers to be SO much more interesting.

So right now its 3:06, there are four minutes until school ends. I don't really have much to do, so here I am.
It's called being on a spare, hun. As in we don't have class...it's not that hard to figure out...
they could be using the school computers...or maybe they're homeschooled?
well it depends where abouts in the world you are like england its 5 and in america its midday

also in some classes your allowed to go on the internet and when we get bored we go on sites such as yahoo etc i know i did in IT last year with my friends i sat next to

What are some things that teenagers can do to help themselves cope with depression? (not medication)?

i'm 13 and i got depressed almost a year ago, and i kind thought i was getting better, and so i stopped seeing my therapist, and i never took medication, but now i'm feeling kinda sad and confused, but i don't wanna go back to therapy, so what are some things i can do to help myself? What are some things that teenagers can do to help themselves cope with depression? (not medication)?
I was depressed for a while, but I just started to focus 100% on the positive.

Excersise, and learn to love your body no matter what size it is. Be proud of what you got and don't compare yourself to anyone. Don't bash your body when all your friends are standing around going 'I'm fat, I have huge hips, blahblahblah.' Instead pick out something you like about it. Say, 'I like my bum; I think I have a nice bum.' haha, I swear it helps.

Hang out with your friends. Even if you don't get along all the time or don't have many friends, you can still just relax and have a good time. Make friends for life so you don't have to worry about impressing them. Love them for what they are no matter what and they'll do the same to you. Don't cause drama by talking about anyone behind their backs, and stay neutral if anyone fights. Just be a nice, sweet person and they'll appriciate you.

Spend some time alone. Get a hobby, I like to draw, and play guitair so work on something like that. I practiced so much that I have 2 new talents to be proud of. When I'm alone, I force myself to do my homework, then do some yoga, then get a bath. It feels amazing to have your homework done early, It's a huge laod taken off.

Most importantly, stay away from drugs and drinking, because that can lead to way worse problems, and ruin your future. Also, when you sober up you'll feel way worse than before. If your friends go out drinking, you can still go, but stay sober and keep an eye on everyone, they'll thank you later after you save someone from being taken advantage of.

So that is exactly why I'm not depressed anymore. Hope I helped, good luck:]What are some things that teenagers can do to help themselves cope with depression? (not medication)?
Hang out with your friends and family, enjoy the outdoors, take more bubble baths, dance in your room, watch television, go to the mall, listen to your favourite songs, go for a jog, get a job to keep you busy if you can, etc.
I think its normal for a teenager your age to be in angst and be all confused and angry or sad, as i did when i was your age. But thankfully, i found an outlet through drawing. perhaps you should hit the gym, or find a sport you enjoy. Reading helps too.
get out more.. keep a journal ,depression is no game and can lead to other things please seek help
That's normal, so make sure not to worry. Think of things that you love- reading, music, writing, stuff that will help you cope. Talking to someone whom you trusts is a great way to get assurance. It's great that you don't want to take medication which is a cope out. Keep you head up!
Exercise, it releases happy feelings, and it could also make you be healthier and lose weight, which everyone likes. Try listening to relaxing music, write down your feelings-sometimes that helps because if you write it all down on paper then its almost like getting it out of your mind, or poetry, painting, drawing. Find some hobbies, as long as you keep busy, and feel like you are accomplishing something it should help you not think about being sad as much.
First off, I've been there. So, I know what helped me was to get out of the house, or the place you usually go to be sad.

Then get involved in things you used to enjoy doing, or start doing something you always wanted to try. Get Out of the house!!! It never helps to sit around thinking about the fact that you are depressed.
For me it helps to take things slowly a step at a time,

and on planet depression I don't judge myself by normal standards but say - hey It was really good I got up at all today - and washed my face - progress!!

I give myself space it really helps me to go on long walks by myself - the rythm of walking and the space and fresh air gives me time to sort things out as well as get stronger legs.

I think it helps to disengage a bit from the gaminess of socializing and be 100 percent behind yourself - Like saying 'I might come to your party but I am not feeling totally up to it so I might not and I might leave early and it will be about me not you.'

I also hang onto - This too shall pass.. and it always does eventually with or without medication.

I know it feels weird to be depressed so young I was too, but it does make into a stronger person
You should definitely try to find a therapist that you are more comfortable and continue there. It is one of the most important things that you can do to help find ways to manage your depression. Other than that, aerobic exercise has been proven to be almost as effective as many anti-depressant medications, so 30 minutes a day will help you a lot. Also, you need to make sure you get enough sleep since that can be a big factor, and you should try to keep a moderately healthy diet (you don't have to go overboard with this, just make sure you're getting everything you need). You want to find a family member or a friend who you trust and can talk to when you're feeling down. This stuff seems like a pain but together it all really makes a difference.
umm.i think that if you don't want to be depressed, you have to go mental. i dont mean like ur crazy, i mean that you need to meditate and be at one with yourself. also try yoga to be at one with your mind and body. yoga and meditation teach you to calm the body down and feel the positive energy from nature and apply that to your daily routine so try this and im confident that your depression will go away.

    please answer my question.thanks

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>
Exercise can help with depression. Go for a walk, bike ride, roller-blade, run, whatever you like to do. Also make sure that you get out in the direct sunlight at least 15 to 20 minutes a few days a week. No sunscreen for that short period of time. The sun helps your body produce much needed vitamins that, among other things, help produce the feel good chemicals in your brain. St. John's Wort is also a natural anti-depressant herbal remedy. Just make sure that the product you are purchasing has enough of the herb in it to do you good. Nature Made makes very good herbal products that have the correct amount of product in them.
spend time with your friends. don't drink or do drugs (they are depressants). find something you enjoy and try to devote a lot of time to it.

exercise %26amp; sports (any kind of physical activity) will help a lot. make it a regular practice. go for a walk every day or go to the gym 3 times a week. whatever you have time for.......

find someone to talk with. it doesn't have to be a therapist, just someone who will listen and let you know that you're not all alone.
    Exercise.

An hour of exercise will have the same effect on your ceratonin levels as 25mg of Zoloft.

Four hours of exercise is like taking 100mg per day.

Keep your mind on positive things. Garbage in - garbage out. If you pollute your mind with depressing thoughts, they will harbor depressive feelings.

Television shows like Dr. Phil, Montel, Ophrah, etc lay out other people's problems in a simplistic fashion with easy solutions, or no solutions.
don't stay by your self try go out with friends and family and don't think about it good luck

  • What do you think about teenagers today ?

there was a 12 year girl pregnant, smoking, free sex, havin' wild party wif boyfriend...tell me is it nice our teens do that? What do you think about teenagers today ?
Wow, sounds like Mom and Dad are keeping a good handle on their teenager.

As for most of us, we don't do that stuff. 10% give the other 90% a bad name. What do you think about teenagers today ?
Is it nice that her parents don't pay enough attention to her that she has to resort to outside sources..
dont worry, not all teens are like that. My mum is a great parent, always there for me, and i would never want to break her heart by doing drugs or anything like that. My dad bugs me alot, but i still love him.

I'm glad my parents arent divorced :)

Ultimately, it is the parents' influence.

    %26amp; i couldnt ask 4 a better mummy :))
The 12-year-old's parents are to blame. Where are they???? Teens today get a bum rap. There are a lot of great teens out there, working hard on the job, working hard at school, volunteering in the community and helping care for their families. They are going through a tough time with raging hormones and changing bodies and lives and they need support from the families and communities.
i dont know what to think

What is Pensacola FL like? Is it an old folks community or is it a happenin (without a million teenagers) area

We live in Navarre, which is about 25 miles east of Pensacola and it's an awesome place to live and there are a ton of things to do. Pensacola has a variety of people, most of whom are exceptionally nice, fun and family-oriented. Pensacola Beach is beautiful and there is a younger, more carefree group of people in that area. It's very laid-back and beautiful. We lived in San Antonio for about ten years...loved it there, but would never leave this area because it's so perfect for us. Hope that helps. I would encourage you to visit, if possible...especially if you love white sandy beaches and emerald green water. :)What is Pensacola FL like? Is it an old folks community or is it a happenin (without a million teenagers) area
Go to Google and type in Pensacola. Here's a snapshot:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pensacola,_鈥?/a>

There were 24,524 households out of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were married couples living together, 16.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% were non-families. 32.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.92.

Whether being around teenagers, old-folks or not, if one likes oysters, there is simply no other place to be when it's the right time of year at the right restaurant. If you don't like teenages, old-folks or oysters, run for President. This way you can cut social programs and no one will have money to travel; you can have the place to yourself if you can cut Naval funding also. That may be a bad idea. Only the rich will have money and they are typically older and producing offspring. Sorry, I'll retract that, Just become President. What is Pensacola FL like? Is it an old folks community or is it a happenin (without a million teenagers) area
Pensacola is a slow-paced town dominated by the presence of the Navy. It is more like Alabama when compared to the rest of Florida. The beaches are beautiful and due to the large presence of rednecks, it's commonly called the ';Redneck Riviera';. It's more for retirees and not for teenagers.
According to the census, there were 24,524 households out of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were married couples living together, 16.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.2% were non-families. 32.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. My brother just finished up A School there he is in the Navy... He is only 20 and he loved it ... well besides the humidity... He said there is so much to do there, and their is a wide range of people there def NOT a retirement community... Have Fun ...
My brother moved to Pensacola a year ago. He loves it. Florida has a lot of retiree's in it period.
dull, lots of old people and applebees, chillies, and Denny's... not to much fun for a younger crowed.. lots a blue hairs running around....

    Theres BINGO there..
Not happening at all, move to Orlando!
It is pretty boring. Not exactly a hang out for young people.

The woman who cuts my hair says that a lot of teenagers are getting white hair now?

Is there a reason for that? Could it be environmental like more pollution or sunlight? more stress? hmmm...could it be a sign of the End of Civilization as we Know It?The woman who cuts my hair says that a lot of teenagers are getting white hair now?
It's true. But then again it's usually because the color of your hair. For instance, I have red hair and I have found white, blonde, and gray hairs in mine. My boyfriend has black hair, which is prone to getting white and gray hairs in young age. Brunettes tend to see the same thing while blondes have white hair (which is usually unnoticable on account of how light their hair is.).

Mostly it's due to the fact that teenagers are under a lot of stress these days with family, jobs/careers, and classes. It's difficult to juggle it all, I know I'm trying to juggle a job, college, and a family.

Contrary to popular belief, hair color changes are not a genetic trait. As you get older, your hair will lose it's pigment with age causing it to gray and then whiten. This is the reason it's difficult to cover gray and white hairs, because there's no pigment to hold the color in.The woman who cuts my hair says that a lot of teenagers are getting white hair now?
I think she is trying to unload more services on you than you want and need to make the old might dollar profit to herself.
I think it could be the diet. Something artificial that's been added to our food.

Try organic produce to see if this can help.
I never heard that. Gray hair %26amp; white hair is caused by hereditary. Stress can cause hair loss but not white hair or gray hair.
I think it is caused by stress. Teens have so much more stress put on them these days then ever before. Stress to fit in, stress to do good in school, stress to have a job, stress to pass the AIMS test. A lot of this stuff wasn't necessary 20 years ago. Stress causes you to age faster.

How many other people think this is just a huge waste of time since they allow dumb little kids & teenagers to

I'm honest when i say that today's teenagers have to be the dumbiest and most immature of all times and i personally think until they remove them off Q%26amp;A the majority of questions %26amp; answers aren't doing anymore but taking up space and i just wondered how many other grown people agree. Kids answers will be ignored because i will know who you are. Trust me!!How many other people think this is just a huge waste of time since they allow dumb little kids %26amp; teenagers to
i think your right, too many kids are using the q%26amp;a page on relationship problems to discuss stupid classroom stuff like ie(this boy winked at me,does he love me) crap while genuine people with genuine problems cannot get their questions on the page, rather then remove the kids i think they should be relocated to a page that covers a set age range that allows other children to air their romper room love problems, good on you for bringing this up,im sure your not alone,,,,How many other people think this is just a huge waste of time since they allow dumb little kids %26amp; teenagers to
your not a people person are you
The kids on here who can't spell and ask immature questions give the other kids on here who actually are intelligent a bad name.

this question is taking up space
Wut the heck are you talking about moron
I don't think it's just a huge waste of time; I've known a lot of people to get help here.

Actually, they DON'T let little kids on here; you're supposed to be at least 13.

Not all teenagers are dumb; nor all all dumb people teenagers.

You may be honest, but you aren't being accurate. Every generation has said the same thing about teenagers throughout recorded history (and probably before).

Please read the Guidelines for using this site. Notice the violations include non-questions, and non-answers.

I disagree. the question ';I like this guy, but im not sure if he likes me or my friend, should I text message him?'; is surely a valid probing attempt at the annals of human intellegence. Scholars no less than plato and socrates have grappled with such issues.

    Summer recreational activities for teenagers?

Over the summer, my youth group isn't having ';lessons'; on sunday nights. Just recreational things. (They need to entertain my teenage friends for 45 minutes to an hour) There's a few of us that are in charge. I need some good ideas. This week we're having a water balloon fight. Next week we're playing ultimate frisbee. Those are the only ones we have. We have access to a few baseball fields, a relatively big room, a huge parking lot, and some pastures in the middle of the country.

I need help with ideas! Thank you in advance!Summer recreational activities for teenagers?
    The Kings Game!!

Here are the rules, depending on how many people who want to play

for EXP.5 people. You number four of the straws 1-4. The fifth one you color red or any color you have. You hold the straws and each of you close your eyes and pick the straws. Who ever has the colored straw is the king. The king can tell anyone to do any thing they want but the catch is you can not say the name of the person you can only say the number. For exp. the king commands number 4 to give the king a piggy back ride. I hope you like this game!Summer recreational activities for teenagers?

What is the best personal security/self defense device for teenagers?

I would like to provide my teenage girls with a personal security/self defense device such as pepper spray, stun gun, mace, tazer, etc. that they can carry with them. Can you suggest the best one and where I might purchase it such as a retail store or website. What is the best personal security/self defense device for teenagers?
A boyfriend and not a stranger do most damage. The best security you can give them is teaching them what a healthy relationship should look like, how to act in a relationship, and what to do if they start loosing their since of identity.

You also need to consider if they have any medical conditions. Asthma sufferers should stay away from mace %26amp; pepper spray. Tazers require significant amounts of training just like a real gun. Should you get one, you need to set up a 鈥榯azor range鈥?and practice lots. Here鈥檚 a web site 鈥?but again, the biggest threat is the ppl you鈥檝e already invited into their lives. What is the best personal security/self defense device for teenagers?
On their car keys is a panic have them push it and it makes a loud noise great for any woman to know.
Don't bother. The very best deterent a teenage girl, or any girl for that matter, has is her lung power. If attacked they should scream, I mean really scream at the top of their lungs! And fight back! If they try to use those items you mentioned they would only get hurt worse. The assailant would simply turn the weapons on the kids. All young people, whether girls OR boys should just scream! Parents need to teach their children that they never have to go with any adult they do not know. If attacked SCREAM. I cannot emphasize it enough!
This is going to sound crazy, but get them to carry a small can of hairspray.

Mace, tazers, etc., might be illegal where you live. Even if they're legal, if your daughters use them, the attacker could then try to get THEM in trouble by claiming the mace or whatever is a ';weapon';. Sad but true.

    However, hairspray is perfectly legal.
Common frigging sense. Don't get into situations where you're not sure of the people involved or the events at them. Situational awareness is #1. All else are technical questions.
Enroll them in martial arts. Then they needn't worry about something that can be taken away and/or used against them. They will always have their hands and feet with them.

And one thing they should learn in a good martial arts school is the potential to use anything as a weapon, or at least for defence.
The first answer nailed it. Call your local police station and ask them if they know of a self defense class for women. This will teach them exactly what they need to know in a bad situation. If they are carrying something, then who says they will even have time to retrieve it. They should be taught exactly how to react if attacked.

  • How much Fat do teenagers aged 14-18 need daily?

... Obviously there aren't going to be any people here that are telling you the right values. All that you have to is to get the bare minimum of calories from fat since you can synthetize all but the few that are linolenic and palmitic of 'special' length... You only need like 10 to 20 grams of fat daily if you are able to get enough calories from carbs and proteins. Just double your protein intake and keep the carbs in moderation and always your fats low.

Just make sure that you are getting all other things that you need since pretty much anyway that you go about you are going to fail at keeping the intake below 20 grams unless you are reaaaaallllyyyyy strict with counting calories and reading labels and actually measuring the truth within those same labels...

Though if you are skinny then you are going to need more fat just cause you aren't going to be able to avoid eating enough of the other parts, carbs and proteins, to get enough of those calories that you would need to have a good balance of the kind that is the most healthy for you. And anyway it isn't going to harm you even close to what you would imagine to eat too much fat. It is when you are past a certain limit that you start to see those effects that are bad from having too much fat in your diet.

Check your body fat percentage and if is below 4% then I would suggest that you increase your fat intake substantially unless you are truly fit or something. If above 15% then I would suggest that you at times keep it lower even than 10 grams but at most times 10 to 20 per day.

If above 20%... I would suggest that you completely restructure the way that you go about your daily eating...How much Fat do teenagers aged 14-18 need daily?
If you're at a healthy weight, I would say 40-65 grams. Not 85! Maybe if you workout A LOT, then ya.How much Fat do teenagers aged 14-18 need daily?

How does marketing affect teenagers? Which ways?

    Do your own homework dude...

That's not even a hard question to asnwer! How does marketing affect teenagers? Which ways?
Teens are the most marketable just because they are impressionable. Anything new attracts them. If it's been out for a few months, it's old to them. This is and oldest trick in the book. It's like cars. They are forever being improved and added to but next years model is always the new and improved. Don't you just gotta have it? This is how money is made. Products have to evolve often to appeal to those who just gotta have. After the C-cards are maxed this game is over. Teenagers and young adults are just prey to this game. How does marketing affect teenagers? Which ways?
Things we want to buy could be marketed to us...
    Think about it!

Teenagers see a cool, very hot girl/guy on TV! Most teenagers think ';He thats Cool'; on whatever the product they are using. Simply because it is being used by cool looking people. Also known as ';Peer Pressure'; and YES peer pressure is used in advertisements

    Example:

    Nike

    Target: 0 - 100 years old

    Product: Apparel/Shoes/

    Slogan: Just do It

    Now look at ths slogan ';Just do it';

what is that? that is a direct pressure on you to do something? and who is niki? a peer? so what is that

    PEER PRESSURE!

also marketing effects everyone, from subliminal messages to the average crappy billboard it doesnt matter your age
    not sure

What foods to keep teenagers healthy?

to try to keep them a good or healthy body shape and a to try to acheive a healthier and clearer complexion. What foods to keep teenagers healthy?
You should eat in moderation. Don't eat sat. fats, trans. fats, or most processed foods. Eat many veggies and fruits (they have sugar-fructose- which is the good kind, processed sugars-high fructose corn syrup-should be avoided). Lean proteins like fish, chicken, beans (also considered a starch), help with protein, brain function, and keep you fuller longer, therefore you don't eat as much. Whole grains and nuts will also keep you full and give you a lot of fiber. Starchy veggies like corn and potatoes shouldn't be avoided but just manage how much you eat since you are on a diet. Water is a necessity for weight management. If you must take a trip to a coffee shop just order the basics since the frappucinos or the like are loaded with carbs, sugars, and fats!

-hope that helps! What foods to keep teenagers healthy?
Anything in moderation. Diet in teenagers is less important than exercise - personally I feel you'll get far better results promoting swimming, cycling and sport.

Their heart, lungs and muscles won't get to the peak of efficiency with just foods no matter how healthy and nutritional.

  • What situations that all teenagers pass by?

i mean things like school, love, parential struggles..so on ..(i need more)

what are the things that all of us had passed by when we were teenagers? What situations that all teenagers pass by?
Group them into three and you can fit in whatever adversity: Home, School, Social Life.

Home = parental (understanding) and sibling conflicts (personal space)

School = peer interaction (pressure, bullying)

Socially = Finding identity, where to fit in, (reaction to peer pressure- drugs, alcohol etc)What situations that all teenagers pass by?
I think everyone is saying being pushed to do drugs and sex i just graduated a year ago and i have never been pushed to do any of these things you don't necessarily go through this. But being made fun of/Embarrassing moments that's the only thing EVERYONE goes through because is different for everyone.
    First time experiences:

First kiss, boyfriend/gf, puberty, sex..(maybe), school dance/house party, drugs/smoking, drinking at a party, learning to drive/getting a car, first job, popularity in school....or being non popular, whichever.

these are a few i can think of
not quite sure what you mean....do you mean things you should have taken advantage of but didn't?

Try education.......and not learning from your parents..those are the biggest two things some teens don't think are valuable or needed or they know it all.

Some do.....but most just go to school and teachers babysit...
I'm 16 and ';going through';, what my parents call the Individuality stage.

Basically, I'm into Rock music and the whole ';rock and roll'; lifestyle!

Is it normal for teenagers like me to be into S&M?

I go into it with my girlfriend with, chains, whips and sometimes hot wax. I'm the one who usually gets the treatment, but I fully understand the dangers of it, but it never goes beyond pain. Should I tell somebody about it, or keep it private? Is it normal for teenagers like me to be into S%26amp;M?
My boyfriend and I are really into S%26amp;M, I'm 17 and he's 20... most of my friends admit to liking a little S%26amp;M, so I think it's normal. There's a kinky side to everyone, so there's nothing to be worried about. Is it normal for teenagers like me to be into S%26amp;M?
Why would you need to tell somebody about it? Being into S%26amp;M is perfectly normal, lots of people are. As long as you and your girlfriend are happy and safe about it, I wouldn't worry.

And yes, this is something you should keep to yourself. Or at least only share with close friends; just don't go around announcing it to everyone...
It's not so unusual - my best friend is majorly into kinky stuff, and started experimenting with it when she was about fifteen. So you're not alone out there!
Hate to break it to you, but nobody wants to hear/cares about your sex life. What you do is your own personal choice.

  • I'm asking the teenagers? What kind of helps you want from older persons? Do you want any?

Teenagers may not want it, but advice is probably the best help they can get from older persons.

    With experiences comes wisdom.

Why do you think teenagers drink so much alcohol these days?

haven't they always? Why do you think teenagers drink so much alcohol these days?
Probably for the same reasons some of them have been doing for yr after yr..They see it as being ';cool'; or do it to fit in. There is too much peer pressure AND alcohol is still WAY too easy for them to obtain. Too many irresponsible adults are still buying teens the alcohol so as long as this continues to happen, teens will continue to drink... :(Why do you think teenagers drink so much alcohol these days?
well teenagers drink because first of all its so easy to get and also it makes a boring time more fun i guess...people when they drink become more relaxed and i guess its easier to have a good time..as long as you dont over do it by getting absolutey trasheddd, cuase then thats no fun and its scary for ther person and the people around them
because... beer is good. short and simple. besides like all of the people i know when they were teenagers they drank like crazy, its the rush you get when you drink when your not supposed to. and once your twenty one.. all the fun from drinking is gone.. well for me anyways
Due to the fact that it's something that's restricted to them until they turn 21, it's only natural that they'd want to do it. So if they're restricted legally from drinking, then there's more temptation to drink.
Looking at the reports from US, Canadian and UK studies, yes, they drink a lot these days. But it is not as bad as teens in 70s. No matter what our parents say, you know wild uprising of teens and youths in 70s with pot and etc.
Because well tell them they can not drink so it is a lot more fun if they know they can get in trouble. Or The peer pressure and the I have to fit in factor they do not want to be the weak one of the group
because their is not enough things to do(depending where they live)..more stress.want to let go.pretty much cause their bored and need something to do and getting stupid and not giving a care seems to be fun..
Always have, always will. Just worry about yourself and your circle of friends. Please be responsible and remember...

Only do one stupid thing at a time. Never combine stupid things.
im 17 years old and I honestly laugh at kids that always talk about drinking and smoking. I think its pathetic. All they want, is to be rebellious and its stupid.
cuzz its fun and really at every party u go to in high school theres drugs and alchhol
    cus their f*ckin 'ard.

What movies do teenagers today like to watch?

I need some suggestions. I work at a teen clinic, and our waiting room television gets terrible reception, so we put on movies instead. The problem is that I have really outdated taste in movies, so the patients never want to watch anything I bring in. Do you have any suggestions?

We see kids as young as 12, so it can't be too graphic sexually or violently, and our receptionists frown on movies that change volume very suddenly (suspense thrillers, anything with gunfire or screaming etc.)

  • (I want answers from users young and old on this one) What is with all these teenagers...?

That are sneaking a round behind their parents backs. I mean I see so many questions from teens asking questions about things that they should be asking their parents. Or asking about how to keep stuff from their parents.

(serious question) do kids see that kids on tv keep stuff from their parent, so they decide, hey that's what kids are supposed to do?

why aren't they talking to their parents?

teens: why aren't you talking to your parents?

and why are they trying so hard to keep things from them?

kids: same question?(I want answers from users young and old on this one) What is with all these teenagers...?
Now not all teenagers are like this. I talk to my mom all the time about the things going on in my life. I don't tell her every little detail, but I do tell her a great deal. I have nothing to hide from her, and if I did she would know it immediately.

I think one of the reasons teenagers don't talk to their parents anymore is because their parents aren't around. In our world today people are constantly working, and if they are not at work, they are cooking, cleaning, taking care of younger siblings, or resting from all the work they did that day. I know in my own life there are days when my parents come home from work and want to talk to my siblings and myself, but are too tired from work. If a teen's parents work constantly and they have no one talk too, when their parents come around they aren't going to turn to them for their problems.

Also trust plays a huge issue in a relationship. If a teen thinks there parent is going to blow what they need to talk about out of preportion they are not going to talk about it. As someone already said, there are some parents that if a kid even starts with a ';Hey Mom, I'm having this discharge,'; they automatically think their kid is having sex. Sometimes as a parent you actually have to listen to the entire story. There are times I would like my mom to hear my entire story, from start to finish, before she jumps in with her opinion.

I don't think media is to blame for kids acting the way they do. As a kid, I knew what was right from wrong, and I never felt the need to act like the bad, rebellious kids I saw on the television. I really think that there are kids who rebel out because they don't get enough attention from their parents. Just because someone is 15, 16, or 17 doesn't mean they don't want their parents to show them encouragment, love, and pride. I love when my parents talk about the good things I've done to their friends. It makes me feel good, and it makes my 'rents feel good.

Parents today need to find time to actually talk to their kids about things and we might find things would be a bit different. When they do they can't be overbearing or judgemental. I shut my mom out all the time if she tries to push me towards an answer or judges me for something I've done. Adults don't want to be judged, neither do teens. Everyone makes stupid mistakes sometimes. The teenage years are filled with them :)(I want answers from users young and old on this one) What is with all these teenagers...?
Well I've talked to alot of my friends in my old high school. It seems the more forceful and controlling the parents are the more likely the teen is to rebel. I think it comes alot from piers and other children there in contact with that makes them keep things from their parents. Also if a parent over reacts and gets angry at the kid the kid isn't going to want to tell them something they know is going to get them in trouble.

So to answer your question simply they aren't talking to their parents because they don't want to get in trouble and its easier to lie, and they are working so hard to keep them from them because they want to do what they want to do.
I hate when people think it's TV's fault that kids are the way they are. It's not the best influence, but teens have minds of their own. They don't need to see something on TV to do it.

Here are the reasons I think some teens keep stuff from their parents:

They think their parents won't understand,

They think their parents won't let them engage in whatever behavior they are hiding, so they don't tell them

They think it's nerdy, immature, etc. to talk to their parents.

Other teens tell them not to tell their parents.

And not all teens sneak around. A lot of them do talk to their parents, but the media only seems to focus on teens who do bad things, thus creating a stereotype.

I'm 13, and I talk to my parents.

    Good luck!!
I'm a teen girl...I keep things from my parents and family cause that's what I want to do, not cause I was something on television. I have my own mind and can make me own chooses. The main reason I keep things from them is cause I am doing things I know I shouldn't and I will get into trouble if they find out. Like cigars, I have stole some and gave them to a friend. I did this cause I knew she was going through a VERY hard time and needed something (no smoking isn't the answer but now that the hard times are gone, she has stopped). I also can get my hands on pot, but I don't want it.

What I am tiring to say is I do things cause I want to and stop when I know I need to!
I don't talk to my parents I don't feel comfortable enough to tell them things I need help with.I don't always come to this site for my problems though if it's something serious I ask my friends.otherwise it keeps to myself.

like I said I don't trust my parents and I don't feel comfortable enough to talk to them about stuff
I talk to my mom about lot's of things... just not everything. It's easier to speak with somebody we don't know about certain topics. Especially if you think your parent will blow it out of proportion.

    Ex;

Young girl-Hey, mom, I have this weird white discharg--

    Mom-YOU'RE HAVING SEX AREN'T YOU.

Lmao, I see questions about disharge and whatnot all the time so I just had to pick that one...

And... It's not much of a bad thing. People on the internet answer differently and sometimes that's good. It's like sending your kid off to a shrink except they don't know about it.
Sadly, it has been getting worse and worse ever since the baby boom. Now people are too busy chasing the almighty buck to have time and energy to teach and supervise their children. It takes work to raise a child and they don't want to do it.

The tv is the babysitter, theyre rushed off to some stranger at daycare practically straight from the hospital. No one is there to teach and demand self-respect.

Kids think they are grown at 11, and parents let them run around at that age with eyeliner and booty shorts that say ';Juicy'; and wonder why their darling little girl is knocked up at 14, but can't take care of herself till well past 30, if ever.

Apathy and ignorance. That's the reason.
i don't neccersaly keep stuff from my mom, i just don't talk to her about it. She blows everything up into this huge conversation when i just want a simple answer.

Now i do keep stuff from my dad and step mom out of fear. Growing up i wasent allowed to cry, ever, or i would get spanked, and spanked again if i kept crying. So i do hide alot of stuff from my dad and step mom cause they blow up out of anger.
I don't always try to sneak around my parents or whatever, but there are some times when there's something I just don't want them to know.

Something that I think adults never, or rarely realize is how much power they actually have over us. We do things behind their backs because we know we'll get in a ton of crap for it.

We're just teenagers. Like you didn't act the same way.
Well I do it because my parents are very very strict and narrow minded. I would probably be thrown out of the house for example if I told them that I did not believe in God(which I don't.) If I asked a question about sex they wouldn't tell me first of all, second they would assume that I am having sex. My parents and I have fundamental disagreements as far as liberal and conservative issues go so I find it much easier to talk to other people about it and hide from them. What they don't know that I know can't hurt them.
I don't talk to my parents because i don't feel like i can trust them

anybody who will happily snoop through my rubbish doesn't deserve to be that involved in my life.

and as for keeping things from them, there are certain things that my mum just doesn't need to know.

personal questions are embarrassing to ask, and some may also cause tension between myself and my mother.

Also, with my dad...i just don't like him.

Usually when i go behind my parents back its because i want to have fun without them knowing because they will say no. i know this is stupid but i don't really care.
ok I am 16, and I know the answer. We know what our parents would and wouldn't like for us to do, and we like to do them, so we do, we just don't tell our parents because we could get in trouble. That is really the last thing we won't so we get people to help us keep things from them. Also I guess we kinda like to be rebellious. (Is that a real word?)
My parents are really hard to talk to.. And not very open-minded.

They think%26amp;believe what they want, and there's no changing that.

And they don't let me do very much.. I need space to grow up. =/

So sometimes I get frustrated with not being able to do much, and just go out and do it anyway; keeping it from my parents of course.
im 15 and ive gone behind my mums back alot, and ive got myself in a right mess atm! but its just that they go on and on at you and become all over protective about it, and things you tell them they shout at you or ground you for.. so you just keep it from them so you dont get in trouble. :)
    Well im a teenager!

And i dont tell my mum thinks becuase basically my life has nothing to do with her.

And she might stop me doing things that i feel like i have to do so sometimes you have to do things without there permission

But its my life not theres.

And no one tells me how to run it!

Like my opnion or not i doe care cuz its MY opionon not yours!
They're too stubborn. I don't talk to them becuase they won't understand, and they always expect me to be a little clone of them. If I do something wrong all of a sudden it's ';WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE IW OULDVENEVER DONE THAT or WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE I KNEW THT!'; %26amp; beucase they blow up out of anger.
i don't think that tv/movies influence us teens as much as older people would like to think.

i talk to my parents... not all teens hate their parents.

everybody has secrets... everybody has things that they like to keep to themselves... teens included.
It's not that I don't talk to my parents.

    I do.

They just blow up and make everything seem more serious that it is.

So most things I just dont talk about to tem to avoid that.
I talk to my mom or my sister about everything.

People are too scared to because they're afraid someone will get mad at them, but if you're having sex or something your parents will find out eventually.

    Ha.
Parents don't understand. It's like they are brainwashed from remembering what it is like being a teenager.

    xoxo Jeana
well, i rhink it comes down to many kids being bored, because many kids are home from school today
I'm not a parent, but I was a teenager. I know that it was really hard to talk to my parents. They're always so busy and under a lot of stress and sometimes I was afraid to bring things up because I thought I might get in trouble.

I do blame the media to some extent, but the largest fault rests on the family itself. They can only do the best they can do, so I don't mean to insult anyone.

Parents should be more understanding and open. Just because your child has made a mistake, point out that it was a mistake and don't make the punishment so severe that you're child is afraid to have heart felt conversations with you if it happens again in the future. Trust me, they want to talk to you, but parents make it hard...

Children should understand that parents aren't out there to get them. They want to be there to help them grow up and be productive adults in the future. Punishment is only used to prevent you from making the same mistake twice because hopefully you'll remember the consequences.

Does anyone know of a defensive driving school for teenagers in the Dallas area?

Try ringing some driving schools they will soon tell you of one, or ask the cops or the traffic dept.Does anyone know of a defensive driving school for teenagers in the Dallas area?
Not directly - but they are out there. Try a search on ';racing schools texas'; I suggest this because most of these schools have a defensive driving course.

If you're willing to travel, I can recommend the Bondurant School in Arizona, or the new school in Utah at Miller Motorsports Park. Both are run by colleages. You can also try contacting skidcar.com. They sell skid cars to law enforcement agencies - and those may have a program in your area as well.

Whats up with teenagers and popularity?

I am also a teenager...but i cant understand. Why are most teenagers so obsessed with popularity? I think i can guess the ';evolutionary function'; for this matter, but what do you think?Whats up with teenagers and popularity?
I would say that in adolescence, past (ancient) generations this was likely a very important time in a humans life to establish oneself in a position of high social standing or importance (dominant, alpha, most likely to acquire the best mate, and a person of respect in the tribe). Or a person who is seen as insignificant (submissive, lowest rung in the tribe, unlikely to mate, and possibly in danger of being expelled from his/her tribe)

This would be my suspected ';evolutionary'; importance in the striving for social status (popularity)..

However, in this day and age, I think it is an important time in a youths life to assert themselves, thus validating a persons social status; not to mention the added perks ';popularity'; has for an adolescent. Ie. girls/guys, entertainment, respect, and the ';good feeling'; that comes with high social standing. So the evolutionary importance is significantly decreased, yet the emotional gains are undeniable.Whats up with teenagers and popularity?
He-he :)..No, but I thought you were definitely a college graduate. You do realize you are smarter and more knowledgeable than the average teenager, no? You are.

No offense intended. I was and am just impressed. I don't see such wisdom often around here.

BUT you don't sound OLD either! lol

Because it seems as though those stupid blondes that run the school have everything, and when you don't have much confidence, it's who you want to be.

    They can easily control you.

Trust me, I've been in situations like this, but there is no higher power.

I've definitely told someone ';popular'; off, and when it comes down to it, they're more insecure about who they really are more than anything else. Every teen goes through it, some fall under the pressure harder than others.
They just want a story to tell when they get older like..';I was soo popular in high school.'; I go to the biggest high school in my state with almost 4,000 people, it's way too big to have a popular group because a lot of people don't know people because there's so many. I guess you can call groups ';known'; people but they're not ';popular';.
I think it's the lack of common sense, or just plain stupidity.I'm also a teenager myself and I can't believe what some of these teenagers worry about like their nails and boyfriends etc.

Everytime I see a superficial teen idiot I want to give them a slap.
Yea... I also don't care about popularity. People should like you for who you are and you should like people for what's inside, not because of their status? I have friends and I have people that like me... I really don't know what else I could need.
I don't care about it. I have friends, so thats all I need. And anyways, a lot of the ';popular'; people at my school are constantly at war with each other.
Depends if you are an extrovert or introvert. I am an introvert and would never want to be popular. To be the center of attention scares me.
MEDIA!! They make it seem like popularity is the most important thing!!!
y wouldnt teenagers be obbsessed with popularity???

    everyone else is!!
i might only be a 42 year old mother

but who doesnt want more friends? to be looked up to?
