It was popular because it was NEW. Rock only started off properly in the 50's.

Teens could express themselves because it rebelled against everything. Rock's about free spirit and having fun. Also, hey were saying '**** you' to their parents musc.

'Cos all teens love to rebel against whatever their parents listen to for a while ;]Why was rock music so popular with teenagers in the 1950's?

There was no ';Rock'; in the 50's. there was just cheesy minor and dominant 7th chord progressions with juvenile lyrics on top. might as well be vocal blues (a sub-genre of jazz)
society was very conservative and religious up until then, and rock and roll was one of the first things to rebel against it.
