Habitat for Humanity has projects all over the world. You can probably check with the local HFH or call to England.

The great thing is even if you don't know anything about building there are other jobs (like whating the kids of the builders) and if you do decide to build they teach you how and you help a family that is probably living in substandard housing to be able to afford a place to live.
